We started our morning by listening to our friends sharing at meeting time. Two children shared a story about something happening in their own lives (playing baseball and working on following the rules)-- this was a great opportunity to practice speaking aloud and explaining a situation. Their stories were met with great questions from their friends.
We also learned a new poem today called "Colors of The Rainbow". We first watched a video and a song and then the children received their own copy of the song/poem. This poem helped to reinforce the color words and to teach the Kindergarteners the correct order of the colors in the rainbows.
Ms. Pirelli joined us today and taught the class a little bit about the Zones of Regulation. You can read more about this program on the website: www.zonesofregulation.com. Ms. Pirelli helped the children understand the importance of staying in the "Green Zone" which is the zone where you are calm and able to listen and access information. We talked about strategies to help your body get in the green zone because we all have times when we are in the blue (tired, sad), yellow (unable to listen, not following the group plan), or red (really angry) zone. Ask your child what he/she remembers about the zones and about the book No Fits Nilson by Zachariah OHora that Ms. Pirelli read to us today.
We also finished up our Math Stations for the week (see Monday's blog for a description). After vacation, we will review and focus our attention on addition and subtraction, as well as making combinations up to 20.
