Today was a day of trying lots of new things!! We cut the ribbon on our colored pencils and skin colored pencils and the Kindergarteners drew their first Self Portrait of the year. We look forward to sharing these with you tonight! The children also had a chance to make a choice during Learning Centers. During this time, some used play do, while others played in the block area. Some children also used legos and others read books and drew. We will have Learning Centers twice a week- this is a time where children are independently making choices and we are "coaching" them as they participate many differet social situations.
We also had our first fire drill. We did preview this before it happened, and the Kindergarteners did a fabulous job showing expected behavior. The children were then able to resume back to morning meeting when they returned to class.
The Kindergarteners also had music today - ask your child what he/she did during this time!
We ended the day with math- the children had a chance to explore a new math manipulative such as Zoob Toys, Brissle Blocks, Unfiix Cubes, Pattern Blocks and Circular Shapes. We will continue these explorations for a few days, eventually having them available as Table Top choices in the morning.
We are also so proud of the way the children have been coming into the classroom and unpacking their backpacks, putting their snack in their snack cubbies, making a lunch choice and starting their day! Wow! WE are very impressed. :-)
