We started our morning with a "mock election". The Kindergartener received a ballot and they could circle for which presidential candidate they wanted to vote. Some children made their decision quite quickly, while others asked questions, did some comparisons based on the "issues" that were presented and then made their choice. We talked about the right to vote and the right to privacy, emphasizing that every person can make their own choice. We also read Duck For President which shows a bit about the presidential process and the hard job it is to be president!!
After Literacy Centers, we turned over the letter t-ticking timer in our alphabet. We then brainstormed words that begin with "T". Tomorrow, we will do a sort with T, M, and H to reinforce beginning sounds.
We continued with math stations this afternoon. This month we are focusing on comparing and using the terms "greater than" and "less than". When the children compared their "grab" of items, they were eccouraged to use this language. We also continued to break stacks of unifix cubes and compare the two stacks using this language.
We finished our day with Learning Centers. At the Art Center , some children made catapaults! We did this activity to reinforce the use of our fine motor and to teach the Kindergarteners how to wrap a rubber band. Other children listened to The Three lIttle Bears while others played Candyland or built with Legos.
