We started our morning by painting the recycled art projects we made last week. The Kindergarteners feel so proud of their work and are very excited to bring it home! Thank you for all your help bringing in recyled materials- we have plenty of materials now.
We introduced a new letter this morning- X- Exiting X. I explained that X is a very tricky letter and isn't found a lot at the beginning of words, but more in the middle (such as exit) and at the end (such as fox or box). Children very commonly think that "x" is the letter at end of plural words and we briefly discussed that "s" is the letter that's added to indicate more than one. I continued to emphasize that English is a very tricky language and we continue to expect that they will do their best guess spelling :-)
During Literacy Centers, children started writing down things that they excited for in 2017. We also had a "snowball sight word fight" where children used snowballs for each letter in a list of sight words. Others also worked on a word sort, Lexia, and reading the room.
We continued our math stations from yesterday and the children are very excited to make their own pan balances on Thursday. This will come after much discussion and guided discussion about balancing and introducing the terms "lighter" and "heavier".
We ended our day with Learning Centers. Children enjoyed play dough and also making winter scenes at the Creativity Center. It was a great way to end our day!
Tomorrow we are looking forward to school meeting. The Loker Chorus will be performing.
