Despite the rain, we had a fabulous day today. During morning meeting, the children shared about their upcoming vacation plans during our song "sharing, listening, and caring". After our morning recess we read the book The Night Before New Years and shared our wishes and hopes for the year 2016.
We completed our math stations which included a discussion about standard vs. non-standard measurement and when we would use each of these types of measurement. For example, if we were ordering a rug and needed precise measurements, we would probably use standard measurement, while non-standard measurement is good for estimating a length or height.
We finished our day with a special visitor! Auntie Laura, Heather's aunt, surprised the class and taught us about the country of Switzerland and the special festivals when the cows come down from the mountains. Laura lives in Switzerland and is here visiting for the holidays. We so appreciate her spending some of her precious time with us. :-)
