The Kindergarteners were so excited to start learning about Renzo, our Star of The Week. He shared his poster ad then the class guessed the items in his Mystery Bag, based on the clues he gave. We all now feel that we have added information to our mind files about Renzo.
We also worked hard on our Writer's Workshop stories today. I modeled how to look at our writing in progress, review what was written and make a plan. This was tricky for many of the kindergarteners because they could not recall what they had written....However, they showed determination to work through it and did a great job continuing their stories.
During Open Circle, we talked about the "yellow light" in the traffic light. The yellow light tells us to brainstorm when solving a problem. I gave different types of scenarios (such as "how can you be helpful at home" and "what are some things you can do at choice time?") and we brainstormed.
We also finished our math stations this afternoon. We continued to work on word problems and determining if they are addition or subtraction problems. The children were also very excited to use the U-shaped table where they could write out their equations! Thank you to Sam's mom for joining us during this time and helping with Racing Bears.
