This morning we practiced writing the capital letter "G" and brainstormed words that begin with "G". During phonics time, we learned how to write the capital letters "M" and "N". We also changed the beginning sounds, middle sounds, and ending sounds of words to create real and nonsense words.
During Open Circle, I squeezed out toothpaste as children shared unkind words/actions that they have done (there was lots of honesty being shared!). Once we had a lot of toothpaste on the plate, I asked if we could get the toothpaste back into the tube. The answer was "no". I then told the class that once words are out of our mouths,, they can't go back in, just like the toothpaste could not go back in the tube. We will have a tube of toothpaste in our classroom to remind children of this important lesson.
We started new math stations today. With me, children worked on growing and shrinking a "train of numbers", while others worked on writing number bonds. One group then played "Four Way Countdown", while others continued working on Symphony Math.
