Happy New Year! The Kindergarteners had a fabulous transition back to school today. They were all very excited to share and then to write in their journals about their week away from school. We brainstormed some sentence starters for their journals to try and vary the way that children are starting their writing- some were excited to try this and some focused on hearing the sounds in their words and details in their pictures.
We read Owl Moon today and discussed the setting and the way that the author, Jane Yolen, does such a great job describing the sound heard in the winter months. I have challenged the children to see if they can go owling and hear the sounds of an owl in their neighborhoods.
We started new math stations this afternoon. At the lesson station with me, children worked on using a ten frame and a plus/minus spinner to add or subtract cubes to their ten frame. This month, our focus will be on addition and subtraction! We continued to reivew measuremnt by having the children meausre different items with paper clips as well as use the pan balance to weigh specific objects.
