We started our day by sharing more about our vacations and things happening in our lives by using our sharing song "sharing, listening and caring". After figuring out Kathy's clues for her Star of The Week Mystery Bag, we introduced the letter K- Clicking Camera and discussed the fact that C and K make the same sound. The Kindergarteners were very concerned about not knowing when to use "c" and when to use "k" when writing words. We explained that English is a very tricky language and they will learn, in time, when to use c and when to use k. We then brainstormed words that begin with the "C" sound.
During Literacy Centers the children began reading new books in our Literacy Groups. We are continuing to focus on the strategies of "Eagle Eye" , "Lips the Fish" and "Skippity the Snake". We also introduced the new sight word - to and completed a book related to this word.
We read another book by Helen Lester called Tacky and The Winter Games. We will be reading books by Helen Lester this month and comparing and contrasting her many stories.
We completed our rotation of math stations and introduced new math vocabulary words for our math board- these words included "subtract", "add" and "equation". Tomorrow, we will start our number-handwriting program and focus on the numbers 1, 2, and 3.
We finished our day by having Learning Centers. Children were busy making snowflakes, completing a book about winter, using legos, and playing the game "Connect Four". This part of our day is such an important time where children are learning how to negotiate social situations, use their creativity and make choices.
