Today we guessed Olivia's clues for her Star of The Week. We talked a lot about the letter "o" having many different sounds, depending on what consonants follow it in a word. Olivia had olive oil, an ornament, and an oreo as her mystery items.
We had a fabulous class discussion about Martin Luther King , Jr. this morning. After asking children what they thought they knew about MLK, I gave them a short overview of what life used to be like based on the color of your skin. The Kindergarteners could not believe that there were different drinking fountains, different schools, and specific places to sit on the bus depending on yours skin color! After reading a biography about MLK, Jr, they all cheered as they learned that he stood up against these rules and laws and things changed. We will continue our discussion about MLK over the next few weeks as we read books about him, and also books emphasizing kindness.
We started new math stations today. Our stations are now focusing on addition and subtraction. At one station, children used "story boards" to tell a number story. At another, KIndergergarteners drew a picture to show a number story. Others compared shape puzzles and did "match match" to figure out how many more /less.
We ended our day with Gracies' mom joining us as our Mystery Reader. Thank you for spending time with us:-)
