We started our morning by reviewing all the sight words that we have learned thus far. For our greeting at morning meeting, each child had to find another child who had the same sight word as he/she had. They then had to read the word and create 2 sentences using that word! This was a great way to start our day.
We then read the book Recyle by Gail Gibbons and discussed the way we can take care of the earth. This led naturally to learning our new poem called "This Old Earth". The KIndergarteners were then asked to sort items into 4 catagories: reuse, recyle, compost, or garbage. This activity seemed to be quite challenging, but everyone succesfully completed the sort. You can reinforce these concepts at home by asking if items should be recycled, reused, composted or thrown into the trash.
We continued our math stations this afternoon. Creating equations and thinking about combinations to 6 or 7 continues to be our theme during this time. This is an important foundation that has been encouraged by our math coach to continue reinforcing.
We ended the day with Learning Centers. The Kindergarteners enjoyed our new geo boards and some were very interested in learning how to make paper airplanes. We also had Housekeeping open, as well as the opportunity for children catch up on work and play Jenga.
