We started our morning by sharing things happening in our lives with the chant "Sharing, Listening and Caring". As I've said before, I love this time where children share simple things such as getting a new pair of shoes or excitement about getting a hit in baseball. These shares are so important to me as a teacher to get an even closer glimpse into the lives of our students!:)
During Writer's Workshop, I formally introduced "how-to" books and as a class we "wrote" a book about how to make a cheese sandwich. I shared a list of how- to ideas and was impressed with how many children chose to write new hot-to books during Writer's Workshop today.
We continued our math stations today. Many children were challenged by the "hidden tub" game and I will plan to do a similar activity next week during rotations. In this game, the children know that they have a specific number of cubes and then some are hidden under the bowl. The have to figure out how many are under the bowl based on how many cubes they can see. It was harder than they thought it would be!
We finished our day with Learning Centers. Children enjoyed playing Jenga, while others caught up on some unfinished work. Others were at legos and some enjoyed reading the Atlas that Abby brought in for her "A" clues today!
