I wish I had videoed this morning 's morning meeting! During the share part of meeting, I gave each child a card with a classmate or teacher's name. I then asked them to think of a compliment they could give to that person. After a moment of think time, children put a thumb up when they had a thought in their thought bubble about that person. We then went around our circle giving compliments! Each child had a smile on his/her face- whether they were giving or receiving a compliment!
During Writer's Workshop today, a few children shared their finished stories or "how-to" books. Many were inspired as they went write to their own table spots to write. I look forward to sharing these books with you at our Open House in June!
To warm up for math today, we played "Snap"- ask your child what we did....We completed our Math Stations today.. As we did yesterday, the Kindergarteners rotated through 2 more stations, focusing on additon and subtraction and missing addends.
During Learning Centers, many of the children wanted to make "friendship rocks". They saw a sign written by BASE on the playground that says- "Kindness rocks. Take one, leave one, share one". We took their ideas, found rocks and painted! Others chose to build with Legos during this time, play Bump, work in the Creativity Center, find sight words in the Sand Table, and play Chutes and Ladders.
We ended our day by reading Little Yellow and LIttle Blue by Lio Lionni to kick off our author study of this fabulous author. This book was familiar to many, so it was a perfect way to start this author study.
