The Kindergarteners did not forget a thing over the long weekend! They came in to school in groups of 2 or 3 children as they arrived and were greeted by Ms. Richlen outside the school. They remembered all the routines that we had introduced last week (where to put their folder, how to sign up for lunch, and to begin table top activities) and got ready for their day!
We had our first Open Circle today. There is a notice in your child's folder today describing Open Circle. Today we practiced bringing our chairs over and reviewing the expectations for Open Circle. We will be using Open Circle to learn about such things as "Whole Body Listening", having small reactions to small problems, and so on.
We continued with our phonics rotations today and many of the children wanted to continue this during Choice Time! So, many of the choices at choice time derived from the children's enthusiasm from Phonics time!
We read The Koala Who Could and started talking about the importance of positive self-talk. I also asked the children for predictions about the story as we read it together.
During math today, the children started to explore the different manipulatives that we will be using during the year for math. The Kindergarteners did a great job making observations and using all these different materials in the appropriate way.
