The Kindergarteners were excited to meet Ms. Springer-Jackson, a student teacher from Framingham State, who will be joining us on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ms. Springer-Jackson is doing her observational practicum in our classroom for the fall semester. Welcome to our class!
During Open Circle today, we talked about our "Take A Break" chair. Children are asked to "take a break" when they are showing unexpected behavior. It is not seen as punitive, but rather as a chance for a child to regroup, take a calm breath and re-join the class when the timer is up (which is 3 minutes). I modeled how this is done and then a Kindergartener showed how to follow the plan.
We learned our first letter/sound in Fundations today! The Kindergarteners learned "t-top-t" and learned how to write the lowercase letter t- "start at the skyline, go down to the grass line, fly on the plane line". If your child has a "t" in their name, we will be asking them to write "t" in lowercase!
We had our first math rotations today. Children working with me learned about the Counting Jar. The Counting Jar will be a consistent center where children will use their "Counting Jar" book to count items in a jar, represent the items that they counted on paper, and then make a new baggie with the same number of items. This activity reinforces careful counting, representing a number, and showing your work. Another group worked with Ms Richlen on rolling and representing their dice rolls. During this time, other children explored with pattern blocks and Crystal Climbers.
