It was another busy day in Room 1 today!! We started our morning with an "eye contact" greeting, recognizing that when you make eye contact with someone it lets them know that you are thinking about them and that you care. The children were very successful with this greeting! We also shared about things we feel proud about so far in Kindergarten and what we are all enjoying. Ask your child what he/she shared during this time!
After library (where the Kindergarteners checked out their first books!), we introduced our "word wall" and put each child's name on the word wall. The word wall is a classroom tool where children can find sight words (as they are introduced) and the names of their friends and teachers. We also continued to work on rhyming words during phonics, emphasizing that rhyming words have the same ending.
We also read the book Are You A Bee? helping us understand that although there may be some bees on the playground, their goal is to pollinate the flower and not to sting us. We hope this book helped those children feeling a little bit afraid.
During math today, we continued our rotations which focused on careful counting and conservation of numbers. We are also focusing on simply the routine or rotating through the room and showing expected behavior, even when a teacher is not watching!
We ended our day with Learning Centers where children could make choices on our choice board. We added the sand table to our rotation which was introduced during our Handwriting rotations earlier in the day. The Kindergarteners made good choices during this time and it was a great way to end our day.
