Wow! Today was such a busy day! After picking out new books at the library, we had our Literacy Centers for the first time. During this time, the Kindergarteners are working in 5 small groups which rotate to different centers for different activities. Our focus this week is on letters on the alphabet and rhyming (and also about expected behavior and the procedures for each station). The centers included: a rhyming memory game with Ms. Dennehy, a letter puzzle activity with Ms Meindl (a support teacher at Loker), using i-Pads to access Lexia, a sorting center, and a guided lesson where we were thinking about and analyzing the sounds and letters in our names. We will continue these centers tomorrow.
We also read the book A Tree Is A Plant and learned about the different seasons and the affects they have on the growth of a tree. We also learned about the different parts of a tree- the trunk, branches, leaves, and roots.
During math, we continued the stations that we started yesterday. The Kindergarteners' ability to count accurately and to see small groups of numbers within a bigger array is improving and they are becoming more comfortable working independently for 5-10 minutes at a station that has been labeled "independent" while the teachers support and lead the other stations.
We ended our day with Learning Centers. We added housekeeping and dollhouse to the choices during this time. Ask your child what he/she chose to do during this time.
