We started our day with some very active table top choices. Some children chose to use our books and write words that started with all the different letters we have learned thus far. Others chose to create and design with K-Next or Unifix Cubes, while others read books. We used a new greeting this morning, called "Hey Neighbor' What do you say?" -- see if your child can remember the words or actions that go with this greeting.
We also met with Mr. Jones and Officer Bowles this morning to talk about our ALICE drill which will happen next week. We also followed up in the classroom with a special book written by Loker School for students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Our emphasis was on staying safe and knowing that emergencies are very rare, but that it's important we practice just like we practice for a fire drill. Because we handled the discussion in a very matter-of-fact way, the children did not have many questions and understood the importance of being safe. I did tell them (as did Mr. Jones) that if they have any questions/concerns, they should feel free to ask a grown up.
We had poetry today and sat around a lovely fire (via youtube) and sang some of our favorite songs. During Math Choice, the children had a great time either using legos or straws or working in their review folders to complete a worksheet about addition and subtraction. Other children also chose to complete a dice roll actiivy where they graphed dice rolls. The other choice was a cupcake game where they rolled a dice, drew the number of dots, and circled the greatest number.
We finished our day with Mystery Reader. Thanks to Stephanie Galloway for joining us and reading two books to the class. It was a perfect way to finish our day.
