During Open Circle today we talked about calm breathing. We discussed the technique of breathing in like you're smelling a flower or filling up a balloon. Breathing can help us become calm before trying to solve a problem.
We also learned more about our vowel sounds of "i" and "u". The children learned a technique to stretch out the vowel sound before saying its key word. As the children start stretching out their words, this will help them to really hear their vowel sounds.
The Kindergarteners also loved using clip boards to read the room. This activity helped each child see him/herself as a reader and to realize all the environmental print that they CAN read! You can help reinforce this activity at home by having your child 'read" signs (such as at the grocery store or street signs) to you.
We finished our day by starting a math project which will be continued tomorrow morning. The children started to create spiders- they could decide how many legs they made yellow and how many they made red, making sure the "whole" is eight. This activity is an introduction to the concept of "part, part, whole".
