During Open Circle we started a discussion about "school tools" and my philosophy that "everyone gets what they need". We discussed the way that a builder uses a hammer and screwdriver to get their work done. Likewise, children need tools to help them learn. I showed the KIndergarteners tools such as our standing desks, a lap pad, and also headphones. All children will get to try the tools, while others may be asked to use them more often.
In our "All About Me" books, we worked on our favorite foods page. I introduced the concept of "ABCD" modeling which I learned in my training yesterday. A= accuracy, B=big, C=colorful ,and D= details. We will expect children to think about and try include all 4 of these items in their illustrations.
The Kindergarteners enjoyed spilling the beans in math today! Each child was given a cup of ten red and white beans. Using a ten frame, they were asked to spill the beans, separate into red and white beans and record their totals. The goal was to use a ten frame to help organize their beans and to accurately count and record.
