During Open Circle today we talked about the power of the word yet. I gave examples from my own life of things I can't do yet and shared how adding the word "yet" to the sentence I can't _______ makes me believe that I can eventually do it! We went around our circle and everyone had a chance to share something that they can't do yet. With support from teachers and friends and hard work, I assured them they will be able to do all the things they hope to do!
We learned 3 new sounds today during Fundations- h-hat-h, l-lamp-l and k-kite-k. We also practiced writing these 3 letters, noticing that they all begin on the sky line. We also continued to write CVC words with proper letter formation and the children love the challenge of this activity, especially when figuring out the vowel sound in the middle.
The Kindergarteners also had a chance to think and write about a person they would like to invite to (Thanksgiving) dinner. They drew a picture and wrote their words for us to display on our writing board in the classroom.
The day ended with math as we thought about falling leaves from the trees. The children then created a "part, part, whole" number sentence showing the different amounts of leaves in their picture.
