The Kindergarteners were very excited to work on their "map of the heart" today. To begin our official Writer's Workshop story writing, I modeled with the children how writers write about things that they care about. I modeled sharing what I care about and told my thoughts about the stories I would write about. The class is very excited to begin writing!
We also learned how to write the capital letters "G" and "H" and again discussed when we would use capital G and H. The children sat and used their white boards as we practiced these letters. We also used the pocket chart to create rhyming words, reinforcing the fact that rhyming words have the same ending sounds.
We ended our day with math and played the game "Racing Bears". In this game, children work in pairs to move their bears to the top of the board. They can "split" their roll which is a beginning step to understanding addtiion. We will play this game again during math stations next week.
