Using hula hoops, I demonstrated to the class about "personal space"/"personal bubble" during Open Circle today. We talked about how when our personal bubble is popped, we don't feel very comfortable. We modeled walking around with hula hoops, having a conversation with hula hoops , and waiting in line. We then took away the hula hoops and estimated/made good guesses about how much room we need to give each person. We will continue to reinforce this topic.
We started new Literacy Stations. Ms. Sontag joined Ms. Richlen at the guided reading group, while others sorted words according to their beginning sounds. Others read and acted out stories independently, while another group played a rhyming game with Ms. Lewis. We will continue these stations on Friday.
We played "Show Then Change" during math today. Each child had a baggie of teddy bears. Depending on the number I said/showed, the children had to change their number by either adding bears or taking away bears. This was a combination of skills- understanding more than/less than and subatizing numbers on the ten frame.
