There was a very full agenda today at school meeting- there was a presentation about Wayland's Chinese New Year Celebration (which will take place on February 11 from 2-5 at Wayland HIght School) and information about the Wayland Schools Spelling Bee (which is for grades 2-5). Each class also presented their chosen "leader" to be painted by Bren Bataclan in the next few weeks. Our class has chosen Martin Luther King. We feel that he showed determination to "stand up for what he believed wasn't fair".
After school meeting, Mateo's mom and brother joined us as Star Reader. They read 2 Dr. Seuss books to the class- thank you for joining us today!
During Phonics today, we turned over the letter "Y"- Yakety Yak and brainstormed words that begin with "Y". We then transitioned into Literacy Centers. Children who worked with me received a new book for their book bins which we read as a guided reading group. We continued to review the strategy of "Eagle Eye" which reminds us to look at a picture to figure out an unknown word. Others made sight words out of play do, sorted words by their ending sounds, or used Lexia to help with their phonics skills.
We ended our day with math choice- ask your child what he/she chose to do during this time! :-)
