Our day started in a very calm manner today as the children were encouraged to complete a maze. This seemed to be a good challenge as children entered the classroom.
During Fundations, we learned the final 2 letters of our alphabet- q-queen-q and z-zebra-z. We discussed the fact that "q" has a buddy letter of "u" and that "q" and "u" stick together like glue. When attached to a "q", "u" is not considered a vowel (this will be important later when learning spelling rules). We also practiced writing these letters.
As we continued with Literacy Centers, the children enjoyed reading independently and finding some of our trick words in their books and poems! We also continued thinking about rhyming and sorting letters by their beginning sounds during this time.
We ended our day with math. I taught the strategy of "matchy match" as another way to figure out more or less and how many more or less. We used number shapes and the children worked in partners to practice this strategy.
