We started our day by participating in Loker School's DEC (Drop Everything and Create) morning. The children were challenged to create a top that would spin for 10 seconds out of connecting cubes. It was very interesting to watch the children use one material and work together to figure out the challenge. For those who were successful, we had a "spin off". Others are going to continue working on their models tomorrow morning. Ask your child what he/she did during this time.
During Writer's Workshop, we talked about words that begin with "DR". I often find that children write words such as dragon, drink, and drum with either a "g", "j" or even "ch". I felt that by exposing and introducing the Kindergarteners to words such as these (which are usually not introduced until First Grade) it will make them more aware of this tricky consonant blend.
During math today, we used marshmallows and toothpicks to make 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. The students were so understanding that the marshmallows were meant for building and not eating. After they come home, however, they are welcome to eat their shapes! :-)
