oday we were treated to Colby's family joining us to read as Star Readers. His mom read the book The Book With No Words and his sister (a former student in Room 1!) read the book Dragons Love Tacos. Thank you for joining us this morning!
We are also going to be pen pals!! Bethany Bergergon, a Loker parent (and a former parent of a Kindergartener in my class) is a Kindergarten teacher at the Upham School in Wellesley. We received a letter from the children in her class. We will write back to them tomorrow. The children were very excited about this opportunity!
We also introduced the strategy of chunky monkey this morning - Chunky Monkey tells us to look at small chunks withink a word to break down a bigger word. Children were very excited to share how they used this strategy at the end of Reading Workshop.
We ended our day with Writer's Workshop. We focused on the question "What can I do while I'm waiting?". We created a list of the 3 things that can be done: add to the picture, ask a friend for help, and write more words. We hope that children will use this list while waiting.
