This morning at Morning Meeting some children were given equations and some were given the sum (an answer to addition problem) or the difference (the answer to a subtraction problem) and Kindergarteners had to find their match! They were then asked to greet their partner and then to tell a story based on their equation.
During Writer's Workshop, we reviewed the many strategies one can use to figure out unknown words- breaking a word into syllables, using the letter sound cards to help figure out the letter that corresponds to the sound, and using best guess spelling. Children continue to show more and more independence during this time- a skill that will be useful as they get ready for First Grade.
During Math, I introduced the game "Bump". This game requires children to roll 2 dice, find the sum and cover it on a gameboard. We will play this game next week during math stations.
