Today we started our "Fundations" Phonics program. The Kindergarteners were very excited to meet Echo the Owl who will be "helping" us we learn during our Phonics time. Today we introduced the 4 different handwriting lines- the skyline, the plane line, the grass line, and the worm line. The children also had the opportunity to use the writing boards and to listen to directions for these different lines.
We also sat by the "fire" today and learned our first poem called "The First Thing on my Paper Is My Name". We are hoping that this cute and catchy tune will help the Kindergarteners remember to put their name on the paper!
We read the book Pirates Go To School and talked about rhyming by identifying the words in the story which had the same ending sound. We also identified the story as a non-fiction book.
We ended the day with math and introduced an activity called "Grab and Count". After discussing how to "grab" objects, the Kindergarteners were asked to grab and represent what they grabbed on their recording sheet. Ask your child how he/she represented what he/she grabbed.
