lToday we talked about the word "consensus" during Open Circle. I asked the class to come to a concensus about where to have our first recess- either the upper or lower playground. After discussing both sides, we came to an agreement that we would go to the upper playground. This Open Circle followed our discussion about compromise.
The Kindergarteners were so excited to meet Scott Magoon, an author and illustrator. He demonstrated how he draws (using a program on the I--pad) and then talked about the importance of sticking with one's ideas and passions. He talked about the importance of making mistakes and how it can turn into something wonderful! He then read his upcoming book to the group.
We ended our day by doing a 3-D shape hunt around our classroom and school. The Kindergarteners were surprised to see that so many things in our world can be described as a sphere, cube, cylinder, or cone. I challenged them to continue this hunt at home!
