Today we had Literacy Stations for the first time! This time (which we will have twice a week) is when the children work in small groups on different literacy skills. One group met with Ms. Richlen for guided reading, while others used Lexia on the i-Pad, completed a sort of words that begin with "t" and words that begin with "c" and others played a rhyming game with Ms. Lewis. It was a fabulously productive time!
During Open Circle, we discussed the importance of not interrupting. We agreed that interrupting is not a Double D, but more of an annoying behavior. I explained that if you are interrupting someone, you are not helping them to have good thoughts about you AND you're also not listening to what is being said.
We started an author study of Eric Carle today. We read The Grouchy Ladybug and the children enjoyed acting out the parts of the grouchy ladybugs, remembering the repeated phrases throughout the book. We will continue to read Eric Carle's books to see what is similar among them all.
Our day ended with math where we created towers of 9 and counted back from 9. We learned that every number increases by one and then decreases by 1. We noticed this as I created a number line based on their observations. We also had time to practice writing the numbers 1, 2, and 3 on white boards.
